Thousand Herbs and Vegetable Garden

About

A THORNYBUSH COMMUNITY PROJECT

One of Thornybush Community’s most rewarding and successful projects is a co-operative of five women who grow herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers on a portion of land leased from the Manyangana High School in Uthla.

Thousand Herbs and Vegetable Garden is a rural agricultural business (SMME) that oversees the growth, supply and distribution of fresh vegetables and herbs to our surrounding communities and luxury safari lodges in the Greater Kruger area.

PASSION DRIVES THIS
“AGRI-PRENEURSHIP”

The garden also supplies retail stores in Hoedspruit and the Nourish Eco Village Feeding Scheme. With Thornybush Community by their side, Annicky, Thelma and their team have been trained to monitor and oversee output as well as learn valuable business and administration skills.

The garden has ultimately bridged the gap between the safari industry and its communities and illustrates how passion, resilience and cooperation can make a small agribusiness thrive.

Aside from a variety of the most popular vegetables and herbs, it also grows several medicinal plants for common ailments such as headaches, stomach cramps, skin infections and wounds. These include comfrey, moringa, helichrysum, yarrow and lemon verbena.
